Over my summer break I watched another Japanese show called Death Note and over the past few months I have been drawing some characters from the show, my favorite being L Lawliet (right).

The process

My initial drawing was going to be just a drawing of L, but I decided to challenge myself a bit and put Light Yagami in the mix. I don't really like Light(left) all that much but I wont lie he's pretty fun to draw. I'm having some trouble with figuring out which colors I want to use for Light's hair. I will continue to work on it and add more detail. I've been struggling with lighting, and finding the right colors to hit the characters with. I still have a long way to go with this piece but I'm feeling pretty confident about it so far!

I got into a Japanese Anime called Jojo's Bizarre Adventure last summer and I haven't been able to stop talking about it ever since. It's my favorite show right now and I love the plot and the characters from each part. I recently have been working on a drawing that's a redraw of one of the creator, Araki's drawings. I'm still working on the lineart for Gyro( character lying down) working on making the pose and proportions more similar to the original.

Hirohiko Araki

Although I have only known about this creator's work for a short time, I truly want to learn more about him and of his work.

What is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure?

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by Hirohiko Araki. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 2004. The series is divided into eight story arcs(More commonly known as Parts), each following the adventures of a new protagonist carrying on the bloodline of the "Joestars". Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Is very complicated, but in the most simple description I can muster, the show is about the Joestar bloodline and their allies fighting a seemingly endless battle against evil. There are 8 different parts, each with their own special experience. The anime adaptation was introduced in 2012, the first arc being part 1, where it all begins. There have been 5 parts animated so far, 3 more to go.

Over the break I have been working more with male anatomy, in hopes to get more comfortable with drawing below the shoulders of characters. In the past I use to mainly only draw characters down to the shoulders, in fear of drawing hands and arms.

Its been a few months and I would say that I have improved a lot since last year, and I have welcomed reference more as a tool to use to get better. I used to think that reference was cheating but I soon got out of that mindset and got better over time.
